New Year’s Resolutions: Look At These Things When Reviewing Your Insurance Policy

Add reviewing these insurance policies to your list of New Year’s resolutions for the best 2016 possible!

Now that the New Year is officially upon us, it’s time to get to work on your resolutions. While some of them are more challenging to keep than others, there are a few that you can check off your list right away, setting your year off to a strong start. Reviewing your insurance is just such a resolution, and well worth the minimal effort it will require. When reviewing your insurance policy to check that New Year’s resolution off your list, consider these things.

  • Home InsuranceDid you purchase any valuables in the last year? Talk to your agent about scheduling those items into your policy so they’re covered for their full value. If you completed any home improvements, let your agent know about those as well. Your renovation deserves to be protected, but it won’t be unless you update your policy!
  • Auto InsuranceWhat has changed with your vehicle in the last year? Is your commute shorter? Is your teen now driving? Have your agent adjust your policy to best protect you out on the road. Also, consider your deductible. If you’re better able to handle a higher one-time expense, raising your deductible can help you save on your insurance premiums.
  • Umbrella Insurance: If you haven’t purchased umbrella insurance, you should definitely consider it. This protection will step in if you face a lawsuit and extends over and above the liability limits of your auto and home insurance policies. If you already have umbrella insurance, make sure it’s still enough to cover your current assets.
